In many ways, consciousness is to humans what water is to fish. It is the stuff we move through, and exist on. It is the source of mind and the thing which we humans most often build with. It’s so much a part of us that it seems impossible to get an outside view on. Still, we do seem to have a view on it, of some sort. We can get a glimpse of how it operates by studying other humans from “the outside”, taking an objective view on their behavior.
